The gentle flow of water. The invisible whisper of under-currents below the surface, drifts, ebbs and flows. Water from above. Water from below the surface. Light and shadow, I find these things beautiful and soothing just like creating art.

'Bioluminescent Tideline Drift’ belongs to my 'Aquatic' Series. It is a larger artwork that allows you to come in close to experience this painting inspired by the sultry magic of gathering sea storms, the ocean in the dark of a moonlit night and all the wonder of magical bioluminescent creatures. I delve into the beautiful parallels of art and science that I have bound with my love of floaty effervescent underwater life and bioluminescence. All the stuff that is so very real but cannot be seen with our normal everyday eyesight.

Water as a subject, context and formal element seems to often find its way back into my artwork. It reveals my passionate love of the sea and all things briny particularly the influence of the locale where I grew up - overlooking Bass Strait from a hilltop farm at Flinders. The constant movement of water. The life-giving nature and power of water combined with its fragility of survival. The storms above and below the surface. The colour formations reflected across the water. Powerful under currents, drifts, ebbs and flows. Craggy rock formations, stalagmites, cliff faces. Patterns on a microscopic and macroscopic scale. I find all these things inspiring, meditative and worthy of contemplation.

What I enjoy most about my paintings is they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as giving their walls finesse and a splash colour for years to come.
